A few months ago, I was in the old and beautiful walled city of Harar, 526km to the east of Addis Ababa. This is a city of wonderful contradictions bordered to the north, south, and east by arid and mostly barren desert.
The city rests on a plateau 1,800 meters above sea level and is enriched by a lush green valley graced with year- round sunny skies.
Addis Ababa, a vibrant city where you will find different extremes and contrasts of people, culture, city life and a whole lot more.
A bustling city with more than three million residents, it is the third highest capital in the world situated at an elevation of more than 2,000 metres above sea level.
Ethiopia’s “People’s Day” Festival on Dec. 9th was a special day for all Ethiopians. A day in which people representing each ethnic group in the country gathered in Awassa to celebrate this annual event.
Ethiopia amidst its beauty, possesses colorful festivals and public events which are much loved by visitors. Therefore I wanted to write a few things on the more colorful celebrations, on when, how, and why are they celebrated by Ethiopians.
