This trip is really about the people of the country. Being in Lalibela at the same time as the pilgrims … brought home the real value of the places …
It was a fascinating trip though, amazing sights and history and people.
Don’t go on this trip without a sense of adventure, a sense of humour, a lot of patience and the ability to just accept Africa on its own terms.
The place is safe enough and the local guides are excellent.
Water and electricity supplies are unreliable. Don’t expect a hot shower every day, even at the best hotels. The food is fabulous, providing you stick to the local dishes.
